Beidler Bioblitz

On October 12th, 2024, we're hosting Beidler Forest's first bioblitz. What is a bioblitz? It's a nature survey which relies on community science, where anyone and everyone can participate by helping to record what plants and animals can be found in a specific location. By cateloguing our local species we increase our understanding of the area which also helps when making decisions on what measures are required to properly protect it. Beidler Forest is an old-growth forest with trees over a thousands of years old, and there's still a lot to be discovered here!

This is a free admission event, so if you would like to participate then make a free reservation for October 12th and join us anytime between 9 AM and 6 PM. We'll provide instructions when you check in on how you can help participate in the ultimate critter (and plant!) hunt. All ages are welcome. Everything people come across, from the smallest fly to the largest tree, we hope to record and identify. Many experts will be out in the field as well and can answer your questions about what you've found.

The app iNaturalist has more info about bioblitz events and is a great resource for recording wildlife sightings. While it is not required for this event, you can use it anywhere to record what plants and animals you find, and this is shared with the entire network (and you can search for what other people have found, as well!).
